This app provides the real-time theoretical UV value at the user's location and time, adjusted for the cosine angle of the sun (also considering atmospheric path), a combination which is is less likely to underestimate the current UV index and therefore acts as a check for the lag of other UV based reports. It assumes clear sky conditions to get the UV 'high' value for that moment and again avoid underreporting.

We built this app because we found that News Services and other Apps for major cities have readings that are 1. often delayed by an hour or more (not real-time) and 2. the readings are measured on a horizontal surface so are not representative of surfaces tilted at the sun like the face and arms - these readings are often too low.
